about us

About us, and why we’re writing a health and fitness blog

Our Mission:

Our mission is to document our adventures in fitness and weight loss. We’ll share everything we’ve learned along the way so that you, our reader, will be able to take advantage of all this for yourself as well.

I’m a podiatric resident (a foot doctor/surgeon in training) and currently work not far from Detroit Michigan. I grew up in northern California before going to undergrad at Utah Valley University where I met my wife Valerie, who was a ballroom dance major there and member of their international touring team. Currently she is a certified Zumba instruction and loving mother to our three energetic kids. We’re short on time, energy, money, and sleep but figure we can use our combined medical and fitness training to create a relatively pain free way to lose weight, be healthy and have more energy.

Living on a budget

Our hope is that what we create will allow us and you to achieve these goals without giving up our friends, hobbies, etc… We live on a budget and realize most people out there do so as well. We budget our time, money, and energy. The trick is to find a way to get the health and fitness goals we want without going outside of our budget, while still managing to balance everything else in our lives.

Making habits that stick

We also realize that how we eat, exercise (or don’t exercise), how we use our time and energy are all habits. Habit we have built up over years. Trying to break all our bad habits at once, or asking you to do it, is ridiculously difficult. We believe that is the main reason why health and fitness goals generally fail. As we go forward in this adventure we plan to create a reliable method to change our habits gradually. This is important, since too much change is hard to impossible to handle well for most of us. But, while not as exciting as most fitness fads, slow and steady still wins the race. (in case you didn’t catch that, it’s a reference to the tortoise and the hare, but you probably knew that already)

Our hope is that, as you follow along on our endeavor, we’ll help you as well as ourselves. So, enough about us, take a look at what else we have to offer
